My name is Michael McKinnon and I was born in Middleton, NS but grew up in Lr. Sackville , NS. My summers as a youth were spent with my Grandparents at their summer home in Charleston , NS along the majestic Medway River, at one time one of the best Atlantic Salmon Rivers in the Province. It is here that I fell in love with Salmon fishing and eventually Fly Tying. I am retired after a career in the Canadian Armed Forces all of which was served with The Royal Canadian Regiment, having served in New Brunswick, Ontario, and Nova Scotia along with taking part in various overseas operation. I am Married to my lovely wife Barbara and we have 4 beautiful children and 3 Grandchildren. The family suffered on their own through the years I was away with the Army and now sacrifice so that I can enjoy my passion of Salmon fishing. I owe them alot for their patience. I have been tying flies for over 35 years and commercially for about 25 years now mostly filling small custom orders of Atlantic Salmon flies for customers all over Canada and abroad. I make time every year to return to New Brunswick to fish and guide on the Mighty Miramichi River . I also fish various salmon and trout waters in our great home province every spring and summer. I am a Professional Registered Guide in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and offer Guide services for trips to the Miramichi River and pheasant hunting here in the Annapolis Valley . There is a passion amungst salmon and trout fisherman that binds us togeather. We are now seeing our native species in a state of great decline and such things as invasive species taking over our once great waters. We need to do more to promote flyfishing for trout and salmon! Please Join and help groups such as ASF, NSSA and MSA to ensure habitat, conservation and enforcement are front and foremost so that our Children and Grandchildren will have these wonderful fish around to enjoy as we do. I have had the pleasure of meeting and fishing with some of the finest trout and salmon fishermen anyone could ever know and these folks are true sportsmen who care about our fishery.
